Metal and Glass Partitions - A Prologue, or Everything You Need to Know When an Interior Design Idea Takes Shape

People today strive to make their everyday lives unique and interesting. Clichéd solutions are no longer appealing, which means that home interiors are becoming an ever-greater challenge for designers and manufacturers. Customers follow trends daily in movies, TV shows, online platforms, and other sources. This collage of visual fragments is transformed into products that find their place against bare walls. Bringing unique visions to life is a routine task for the Piritas team.

We are incredibly pleased that our metal-and-glass partitions meet the expectations of the modern consumer. In fact, they are currently becoming an increasingly popular element of home design in Lithuania. However, such products have been known in Europe and around the world since the beginning of the 20th century or even earlier; nevertheless, the revival of the industrial style and the desire to combine metal and glass in interiors have driven the current popularity of these products.

Thanks to their unique design and versatility, metal-and-glass partitions are now widely used in more than just industrial-style interiors. They can be found in New York-style lofts or in the homes of clients who appreciate modern, Nordic minimalism. Such doors are often referred to as “French doors” or “Crittall-style doors.” These door types are very similar, but a professional eye can discern the differences in their unique details.

French-style doors and partitions are characterized by curved frames and light colors. Meanwhile, English (Crittall) style doors are typically perceived as exclusively black partitions with clear glass. This style takes its name from “Crittall Windows,” a steel window manufacturer established in the 19th century. It is a particularly well-known company in the United Kingdom, whose interior and exterior windows became so popular that the windows themselves became synonymous with the style.

English-style doors are characterized by a regular window pattern, fairly massive steel profiles, and hinged doors that are usually equipped with a lever handle and a lock.

Doors and products in a similar style can be found today in homes of various styles, regardless of continent. Due to their appearance, affinity for minimalism, and sensitivity to space and light, metal-and-glass doors have become very popular in Scandinavian-style interiors. Metal partitions also pair perfectly with solid wood elements. It’s entirely possible that in a mountain cabin nestled in the Swiss Alps, you’ll find a log home with metal-and-glass doors.
